Should Professional Sports be Allowed to Continue Under the New UK Lockdown?

The UK has an abnormally large sports fan base - most people you meet will be a fan of one of the many sports Britain is proudest of; football, golf, rugby, cricket, and tennis all have their collection of die-hard fans. But, should the luxury of sporting entertainment be allowed to continue during such a dangerous time?

Since the end of the second national lockdown, Fulham FC have had two Premier League games called off - one against Tottenham and one against Burnley - due to a club-wide spread of Covid-19. If this was not previously realized the Premier League and all other English football leagues could have potentially been damaged beyond repair. However, the London based club handled the issue with the utmost professionalism, and are making players take home Covid-19 tests before every single training session, and quarantining their players accordingly.

On the contrary, many may think it is in the best interest to allow nationally played sports to continue. The main reason for this is concerning mental health; to support a sports team is to invest your emotions into the team's progress. Without this emotional output, a vast percentage of the population’s mental health could suffer. Now, if you are an Arsenal fan, you may already be used to the rise and fall of sports induced mental health. However, for many others, keeping up to date with sports keeps many in high spirits.

But the question still remains: is it worth risking the lives of some of the brightest talents in UK sports and some of the remaining legend's lives, also, to keep the nation as happy as it can be in these tough times.
